Sanding legs for Dining Room Table

We have been turning the Black Walnut legs that go to the dining room table we are making.
While we have the lathe set up we decided to sand and finish the part of the leg we have turned. The bottom of the leg will be Ball & Claw that we will carve.
To sand the wood we started with 120 sandpaper. This Black Walnut is tuff stuff. Then we went over it with 220, 320, 30 micron and finished with 15 micron. Next we mixed up 1/2 Bulls Eye Shellac with 1/2 Denatured Alcohol. We applied 3 coats of this mixture. After each coat dried we sanded with 15 micron paper. The fourth coat we put on was full strength Bulls Eye, then sanded again with 15 micron. The next steps in finishing will be to apply 3 coats of Bartley's.
